Serge was a twilled cloth with a worsted warp and woolen weft that was lighter than kersey and also higher quality. Many qualities were woven and used for a variety of applications ranging from bedding to linings and outer garments. One coarse "sarge" in the Foundling collection was used as a baby blanket, while finer Norwich serges were frequently made up into men's suits.
