Dark Royal Blue Flannel
Wool flannels in the 18th century, such as this Dark Royal Blue Flannel, consisted of a woolen yarn, slightly twisted in the spinning, and woven in plain or twill-weave, then lightly brushed. This created a soft, spongy wool, not extremely sturdy but useful for a variety of purposes such as petticoats, gowns, under-waistcoats, jackets, children's clothing etc. When fulled, flannel becomes very lofty, creating a soft but thick fabric.
Indigo, found in wool as well as linen, created colors that ranged from pale to dark in shade. Some dyers specialized in dyeing only indigo. Its colorfastness made it a desirable and common color.
- This Dark Royal Blue Flannel is lightweight with a soft brushed finish.
- Suitable for women's gowns, petticoats, riding habits, redingotes, men's under-waistcoats, jackets, breeches, trousers, and children's clothing.
