Black Wool "Gauze"
Gauze, by definition, covers any thin, transparent fabric. Used for a variety of purposes, it could be made of silk, silk and wool, or all wool.
Although this beautiful sheer Black Wool "Gauze" might be a little early for the 18th century, it certainly finds many applications in the 19th century. Balzarene was a dress material mixed with cotton and woven on Jacquard looms, to combine figures with the gauze ground. Later "Barege" was woven for dresses mixed with silk, and favored for shawls.
- Our Black Wool "Gauze" is plain woven, with a slightly heavier yarn running through it to create a tiny checked pattern.
- It is well suited to gowns, handkerchiefs, hoods, short mantles, shawls, household needs such as light curtains as well as children's clothing.
